WHAT’S HAPPENING AT OLDFIELD – February 11, 2021

African Drumming
As we celebrate African Heritage Month, each class will participate in a virtual workshop on African drumming, dance and story-telling on Tues, Feb 6th by the Maritime Centre for African Dance.

No School February 15th
The third Monday in February is a holiday in NS to celebrate the heritage of our province.  This year NS honours Edward Francis Arab, who is the grandson of the first Lebanese immigrants to Halifax.

February is Registration Month
Please be sure to remind friends and family that it is Registration Month.  If someone you know has a child ready to start Primary or Pre-Primary in September they should be registering this month.  

This year we are asking families to fill in and submit the registration form online at https://olc.hrce.ca/

If there are any difficulties, please contact the office at 902-883-3010.  It is important to register early as staffing for the upcoming school year is based on the number of students registered.

Kindness Week
This week we are focusing on kindness through daily challenges at school, as well as a kindness challenge for when students go home.  We are hoping that this spreads kindness and shows our students that spreading kindness makes everyone feel good. 

Here are the challenges for school:
Tuesday:  Pick someone today and tell them what you like about them.
Wednesday:  Respond kindly to everyone you talk to today including yourself. Make sure you tell yourself one positive thing that you know about you!
Thursday: Play with someone new - include them at recess and/or lunch.
Friday:  Say thank you to at least one adult at school today and tell them what you are thanking them for.

Here are the challenges for home:
Tuesday:  Tell a family member one thing you love about them.
Wednesday:  Make someone in your family laugh or smile.
Thursday: Help a parent with a chore (such as clear your supper dishes from the table, clean your room, etc).
Friday:  Give a family member a big hug out of the blue!
