We are a small rural school of approximately 160 students, located in Enfield, Nova Scotia. We serve the Halifax Municipality communities of Oldham, Goffs, Devon, Oakfield and Grand Lake up to Kelly Road in Wellington.
Mrs. Phyllis Thomson of Enfield suggested the name of the school should reflect the names of the two main communities of the area the school serves ("Old" from Oldham and Old Guysborough Road, and "field" from Oakfield and Enfield).
Our school was officially opened on May 1, 1963. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees was J. Douglas Flemming. The School Opening Address was given by Lt. Col. K.C. Laurie. When the school opened in 1962, there were six classes with Grades Primary through Eight. Four additional classrooms were added in 1966.
Our school is a one level long building with a multi-purpose gymnasium area, bathrooms, staff room and office in the center. We have a large ball field and soccer field, as well as swing sets beside modular play equipment.
In 2015, a song, "Oldfield School Days", was written for students by Louise Brooking-McDow and produced by Media Solutions. A full feature video is available on YouTube for your viewing pleasure. OLDFIELD SCHOOL DAYS LINK TO YOUTUBE
