About Oldfield Consolidated School
We are a small rural school of approximately 140 students, located in Enfield, Nova Scotia. We serve the Halifax Municipality communities of Oldham, Goffs, Devon, Oakfield and Grand Lake up to Kelly Road in Wellington.
Mrs. Phyllis Thomson of Enfield suggested the name of the school should reflect the names of the two main communities of the area the school serves ("Old" from Oldham and Old Guysborough Road, and "field" from Oakfield and Enfield).
Our school was officially opened on May 1, 1963. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees was J. Douglas Flemming. The School Opening Address was given by Lt. Col. K.C. Laurie. When the school opened in 1962, there were 6 classes with Grades Primary through Eight. Four additional classrooms were added in 1966.
Our school starts at 8:15 a.m. and there is a recess break from 10:00 until 10:15 a.m. The Lunch period runs from 11:20 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Our Primary, Grade 1 and 2 students leave at 1:35 p.m., while our Grades 3, 4, 5 and 6 students leave at 2:05 p.m. Almost all of our students travel by bus.
Our school is a one level long building with a multi-purpose gymnasium area, bathrooms, staff room and office in the center. We have a large ball field and soccer field, as well as swing sets beside modular play equipment.
In 2015, a song, "Oldfield School Days", was written for students by Louise Brooking-McDow and produced by Media Solutions. A full feature video was shot is availble on YouTube for your viewing pleasure. OLDFIELD SCHOOL DAYS LINK TO YOUTUBE
